  • The City of Paris' own 'Ville de Paris' official site is mostly for residents of the city – but may also be of interest to visitors. Bilingual.
Paris Area Public Transport
  • The RATP is the name of Paris' regional transit authority. The site contains all métro lines, stops and destinations. These are the people sell the green Métro tickets.
  • The SNCF – France's national railway system, has a Web site which tells you all you need to know about travel within the Ile– de– France and thoughout its national rail network.
Metropole's Paris Friends
Metropole Paris is associated with the 'WebFrance International Community of Sites.' Visit these Web sites to find useful information, and services in France. Metropole Paris has no commercial relationships with these sites – I use their services personnally. Subjects included are listed below.
  • Volterre-Fr – has English & French language resources – including links to language Web sites. For both teachers and students.
  • The Paris In Sites Newsletter has *news* about the WFI Community of Sites and Metropole Paris.

You can subscribe to this *free* email newsletter to get timely updates. It' easy to do so through the Web site. If you write to Linda Thalman, tell her you heard about it here. She'll buy me a café for every new sub. To date, I have a credit for 149 double–thimble–sized cups, all of them cold.

Café Metropole Club member Josef Schomburg walks around Paris in much more detail than 'Ed.' If you want to 'get closer to being here,' just give Josef's Paris–Promenades a trial.

Paris Weather Info
  • If you think Metropole's weekly analysis of coming weather may be dubious, you can go directly to Météo–France for the official word – which also includes timely warnings concerning extreme weather conditions throughout France.
Handy Paris Yellow Pages
  • France Télécom's 'Yellow Pages' – 'Les Pages Jaunes' – are not what they used to be in print, but are pretty jazzy online. Can't remember the name of a place you are seeking? If you know the street, Les Pages Jaunes probably have a photo of it – which could lead you to a name, address, phone number and maybe even a Web site URL. Nifty.
Handy Paris White Pages
  • France's 'La Poste' doesn't share revenues with France Télécom anymore, so it has its own directory for finding people, busineses and things with street addresses in France. They call theirs L'@nnuaire with the @ standing for 'A.'
The Eiffel Tower Has Views for You
  • Paris' famous iron lady was saved from the demolition brigade by becoming a radio tower and now it has its Web site too. Have a virtual visit to the Tour Eiffel in French, or Eiffel Tower in English. Find out more facts about it than you thought existed, plus see today's Webcam shots and 360–degree views of Paris.
Other Paris Web Sites
  • For a wider look around than than the Yellow Pages gives, try ShareLook Paris which has had a featured link here for a dern long time.
  • For gettng to know Montmartre you can hardly do better than Paris 18 Net, except if you want to try –
  • Montmartre Net, which has the Butte covered too – in English.
  • For another guide to life in Paris, try the Annuaire Parisien for finding things.
  • Besides the Tour Eiffel, this Web Cam site offers more of them.
  • If you are into deep 'meta' searching, ApocalX can be narrowed down just for France.
